Mining
Surveying in mining sites is always fraught with danger due to a large number of activities, including blasting, going on in the area. Terrestrial laser scanning provides a solution where mining survey (e.g. slope mapping, contouring of open cast, over burden volume estimation, land subsidence monitoring) can be performed accurately speedily. Also, danger to surveyors and disturbance to ongoing operations are reduced substantially, as the work can be done remotely. The figure shows the scans of a slope before and after excavation. These data (around 1.5 crore points in 15 Hectare) were collected over the face of slope within in 180 minutes. Data processing took 2 days and the volume excavated and removed from the slope was computed using the software GeoknoVolume.
