Heritage documentation - Bhitaargaon
The brick temple at Bhitaargaon is the oldest Hindu temple made of non-perishable material. With the support from Archaeological Survey of India our team scanned the temple from inside and outside. Clustered setting among a large number of houses and small interiors of the temple proved quite challenging to scanning. Strategically positioning the scanner and its orientation, however, solved the problem. Using a network of total station control points and specially designed targets the interior and exterior scans were combined. Combing all scans together has resulted in a 3D point cloud model. The holes in scan data due to occlusions were intelligently filled and the final mesh model was generated. Figures show some of the cross-sections generated which provide details to the extent which is not possible to achieve using conventional methods. A pptx can be downloaded for seeing the process and data).
