Dam spillway survey - Nagarjuna Sagar Dam

Nagarjuna Sagar Dam, located in Andhra Pradesh, is the world�s largest masonry dam and has been a lifeline for irrigation since its construction. However, erosion of the dam spillway raises questions on its safety and a need to study the As-Built Spillway Profile. The built profile may be different from the design profile due to compromises/alternatives adopted during the construction. Terrestrial laser scanning proved an ideal approach for measuring these profiles over this dam (124m height and 479m wide), as conventional total station based or GPS based surveys cannot provide a solution. The Geokno team performed 11 scans in two days and processed the data over next 4 days to generate a total of 78 profiles (3 for each gate).
